Stand up, stand up, You been sitting way too long v.1 Thieves in the temple Too much money changing hands Greed and corruption Has got it’s grip on this land Times, they are a changin And we want equality Power to the people It ain’t gonna happen Till folks like you and me… (chrous) Stand up,You been sitting way too long Step up, You know what’s right and what is wrong Rise up, Don’t let the system hold you down Stand up, stand up, you been sitting way to long v.2 We demand justice We demand respect We demand fairness So take your knee off my neck Fight for your country You hold the power in your hand March for your freedom Listen to me people Do you understand we gotta (Chorus)

Some came here searching Some came here in chains No matter what we all knew We would never be the same We all were hoping for a better way to live We are America We’re subway stations and tractor trailors And highways with eight lanes We wear hijabs and cowboy hats But live on the same lane We speak every language known to man But we’re saying the same thing We are America Chorus: Oh say can you see Can you still see me And do we all still dream the same dream From sea to shining sea America you broke my heart today But I know you will finally find your way Until then I’ll still love you for the rest of my days We are America Chorus Chorus Part 2: United in Joy Divided in pain No matter how we pray or love we are the same And we can live up to our name Beyond hatred and shame From sea to shining sea (x2)

I've got a brain that's got a switch that makes a thought like: “I should just stay in bed.” But I got a dream that paves the way to melt the pain, For me to forget my old head. Why they gotta sell me like I don’t know what I’m doin? Every day they treat me like the first day of school Movin where - I don’t know - Findin’ while they stomp on my light... That even if I cry... I won't put up with it, I won't put up I've seen the other side, and if its right, I don't wanna be. I won't put up with it, I won’t put up I know I’ll make a new world, oooh I won’t put up with it no! Take a breath, take a breath... We see the game, we’re overworked to feed some jerk And keep em’ fat and entertained Love thy neighbor, shoot thy father, love’s the answer, Now please go on and hate Ohhh, Still they wanna sell me like I don’t know what I’m doin’ Cos every day I’m movin on a permanent high, Like that’s some kinda crime? I won't put up with it, I won't put up I've seen the other side, and if it’s right, I don't wanna be. I won't put up with it, I won’t put up I know I’ll make a new world (Just give me the new world!) Yeah yeah, I won’t put up with it no! I want a new world now... Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Just imagine what this world could be Why don’t u let yourself be free Why you bust a cap on it!? An ordinary world with ordinary thoughts So dangeous, cos you can never see the cost, Less ya won’t put up with it I want the new world... now! Oooh won’t you give it to me No, No, I won’t put up with it no! I won't put up with it, I won't put up I've seen the other side, and if it’s right, I don't wanna be. I won't put up with it, I won’t put up with it... I want the new world now I want it now! (Just imagine what this world could be Why don’t you let yourself be free? Why ya bust a cap on it?) Its really what its all about What its really all about. Quit livin’ asleep, you gotta wake up Don’t wait for the feelin’, Gotta find the feelin’ Gotta get up, get up, get up... I’m talking wake up, wake up, lets see...

I have seen some wrongs to right and I have justice in my sight; These aren’t just suggestions! History records – I know that history rewards – Those who ask big questions! I see the world I came into ... I’m askin’ “why?”, Dreamin’ ’bout what could be ... ’Promise you’ll hear my cry! Why must I be smarter? Why must I be stronger? Why must I work harder Just to start the race? Why am I pushed off the table? Why’s my name not in the air? I take nothin’ for granted, But set a winning pace! Sisters have been waiting, Mothers have been praying For justice to come now! Though the sky looks threat’ning, There’s a shining rainbow. Just beyond the clouds! Stand up for me and I’ll stand up for you. Stand up for those silenced From saying #metoo. Yes, we will be smarter! Yes, we will be stronger! Yes, we will work harder! And we’ll win the race! We will be ‘round the table! Our names will be in the air! We are making history and Now we’ll take our place! (c) David Keyes and Steph Chou Music (ASCAP)

Come, come along Walk beside us, you belong Come, come along Together, we are strong None of us are free until all of us are free We can make a change with solidarity So everybody, let’s come along Paint, paint your sign It’s your own battle cry Lift, lift it high Your power can’t be denied None of us are free until all of us are free We can make a change with solidarity So everybody, let’s come along Can you hear our voices? Can you hear our call? Fighting with the strength we’ve had all along Come, come along It’s our moment, it’s our song Come, come along Together, we are strong Come, come along Walk beside us, you belong Come, come along Together, we are strong None of us are free until all of us are free We can make a change with solidarity Walk beside us, you belong Together, we are strong Everybody, come along

When the waters rose Were you awake? And where were you when the mother cried Giving up her child To the Holy State? And where were you When we marched in the streets? Where were you? Were you keeping the peace? Where were you When we took the waters back? Where were you? Did you have your mother’s back? Rise up Now is the hour Rise up Take back your power Rise up We will not wait We rise up today Where were you When the soldiers died Fighting for the truth? Were you alive? Where were you When the towers blew? When the temples burned Were you inside? And where are you When we march in the streets? Where are you? Will you be the peace? When darkness overcomes this land And I can hardly see to reach for your hand I need your light I need your light When gloomy shadows shroud our hearts Dividing friends with fears that tear us apart I need your light to shine and burst through the clouds of fears and lies I need your light to light a rainbow of truth across the skies I need your light I need your light When bullying supplants debate When patriotic means to advocate hate I need your light, I need your light When fear becomes the air we breathe When lies are told as truths for us to believe I need your light to find my courage to touch and love my foes I need your light to lift my burden so I can fly and glow So I’ll be the light as you are the light We’ll be the light to light the pathway to justice, truth and grace Let’s be the lights to clear the shadows and make an open space Where we are free Where we can speak our truth Where we can fly and shine and burst through the clouds of fears and lies Let’s be the light to light the rainbow of truth across the skies Let’s be the light, Let’s be the light, Let’s be the light

Isn’t it strange, building a wall for our freedom? Isn’t it strange, to only care for our own? Isn’t it strange That we keep on fighting Do bullets really save lives? Isn’t it strange That we keep ignoring The cries of the ones who survived? Can’t we agree To live and love in harmony? Cause if I’m not wrong We are sharing this world ‘til we’re gone So why don’t we give it a try? Isn’t it strange How love is illegal While having a gun is alright? Isn’t it strange How we are destroying Our borrowed home for humankind? Can’t we agree To live and love in harmony? Cause if I’m not wrong We are sharing this world ‘til we’re gone So why don’t we give it a try? Isn’t it strange How we keep on pointing To everyone but ourselves Isn’t it time then To gather our forces Why don’t we give it a try?

You’ve been living all your life here in this town Now bulldozers are tearing houses down Rent has got so high you can barely get by Still this is your neighborhood, Welcome Home Evicted now you’re sleeping in the park Rain and cops and no rest in the dark You’re body’s feeling old but you’re left out in the cold You need a place to live, Welcome Home Bridge: This is our city -- where we all dream Of a better life for our family Everybody needs a home that they can call their own Here in the land of the free You traveled from the battles in Iraq Back to flag waving and lots of empty talk We cannot forget -- we owe you a debt Now you’ve come here to our town, Welcome Home You fled your country middle of the night Sky was black, no border guards in sight You’re building a new life for your children and your wife We’re glad that you are here, Welcome Home You came here thinking that you had a shot Now you’re camped out in the Walmart parking lot Playing bars for tips, waiting for your ship We want to hear your songs, Welcome Home Bridge: We clean your hotel rooms, teach your kids in school Put our lives on the line when fires burn We’re drivers, waiters, retail workers, caregivers and cooks We can hardly pay our way with what we earn We will not be destroyed by the wrecking ball This city, it belongs to us all Children should be safe, everyone should have a place All together now we say Welcome Home Children should be safe, everyone should have a place All together now we say Welcome Home

If it didn’t have a light glowin’ bright from a screen If it didn’t have some murder and mayhem in each scene If I didn’t get a buzz once it entered my bloodstream Had no interest in that, no interest in that If it wasn’t in the tabloids stacked up in the check-out line If it made me think too much after a long and hard day’s grind If a homeless guy was wantin’ I would look away each time Had no interest in that That’s how I used to feel that’s how I used to be Until I stared into the eyes of a man who wasn’t free Against my better judgement it became my concern Now I just can’t let it go ‘cause we’ve got no time to burn If it doesn’t come from love, if it doesn’t lead to grace If it doesn’t bring a smile to at least one worried face If it doesn’t leave our planet just a little better place Got no interest in that We all can have a vision, we all can have a dream, We all can make it true as hard as it may seem Alone it's all but futile, together it will come With a million hearts and minds workin’ hard to get it done If it doesn’t bring some justice, if it doesn’t bring some joy If it doesn’t fill the bellies of some hungry girls and boys If it doesn't help to lift us from this dark and growing void Got no interest in that, no interest in that, I got no interest in that, no interest in that, I got no interest in that © 2018 by Brant N. Written following a personal pilgrimage to Selma, Alabama, where John Lewis, Jimmie Lee Jackson, and other heroes fought powerfully against oppression by getting into “good trouble, necessary trouble.” It’s our turn now. 1. Jimmie Lee Jackson, back from Vietnam, In desperate times, he dared to hope In Marion, Alabama, mid-1960s A black man could not vote There was a peaceful protest The police attacked his grandpa and Mom Jimmie tried to defend them The cops shot and killed him, he was unarmed 2. The people said, “Enough! We won’t let Jimmie die in vain” They started a march to Montgomery 50 miles on foot in his name The marchers were gassed and beaten On national TV Millions raised their voices saying, “Everyone should be free!” It’s our turn now, our turn now They showed us how It’s our turn now Come and join us, we will rise We will vote and organize They showed us how It’s our turn now 3. The marchers arrived in Montgomery Met by a jubilant crowd 50 thousand, black and white, Their voices clear and loud They overcame despair They bravely took a stand A law was passed protecting Voting rights across the land
